LOUISE Bevan was Slough Ladies’ match winner with the only goal in her side’s win over Clifton which had a particular irony.
The 34 year-old winger was playing her first game this season for Slough after an absence at the Commonwealth Games and her goal spelled defeat for many of her Wales colleagues in the Clifton team.
The win lifted Slough a place to third, a point behind new leaders Leicester, level with Birmingham University but with an inferior goal difference and a point ahead of Canterbury. These four have put five points between themselves and the following pack, led by Bowdon Hightown.
Slough skipper Fiona Greenham said: “The result was satisfying but not the manner of it.
“We did not keep possession well and turned over a lot of possession.
“Clifton had more possession but did nothing with it and our keeper was never troubled.”
The crucial goal came in the 50th minute when, from a break down the right, Alex Scott crossed for Bevan to fire home from mid-D.
