Slough Ladies win takes them into 3rd spot

NICOLA White and Hannah Bowe scored their first goals of the season to give Slough Ladies a 2-1 win over Cannock which took them into third place.
Slough skipper Chloe Strong said: “At the first half injury break the message was to keep it simple and concentrate on the basics.
“At half time we resolved to improve our communication which had been poor and it worked.”
Slough made a nervous start as they struggled to adjust to the slick pitch until a break for an injury to a Cannock player after 18 minutes gave them the opportunity to regroup.
Six minutes later their first penalty corner brought the opener when the ball was slapped to the far post where White steered it home.
Slough stayed on top until half time with Cannock mainly threatening with balls across the D.
Slough went two up in the 43rd minute from a corner when the outrunning defender deflected the ball into Bowe’s path.
Soon after Bowe was sidelined with a knee injury, necessitating a readjustment of Slough’s back line and, before they had sorted things out, Cannock took their chance to cut the deficit in the 64th minute.
A long ball through the midfield caught out the Slough defence, allowing the Premier’s leading scorer Linda Royston to net her 12th goal of the season.
In the final six minutes Slough’s greater experience showed as they kept things tight to the end.
