'Crocked' Slough concede 7 away at Oxford Hawks

Steve Dixon20 Nov 2011 - 13:08

Injuries take their toll as Slough lose again.

Slough followed up their much improved performance of last week with a slighly worse one against a better opposition with inevitable consequences.

Alough Started fairly brightly but were under pressure from the start being as they were 10 men against 16. They did manage to hold out until late arrival Mo Daggar made it on to the pitch but then conceded shortly afterwards with a tap in at the far post after a Hawks player was left un marked giving Andy Popplewell no chance. This really summed up the game for the 'keeper with not one of the 7 goals conceded being saveable.

Slough's defence played fairly well with Sam Watkins starting to grow into his new defensive role well making a number of important defensive forays to break up the opposition attack and Taranjit Singh taking a while to get up to speed after last weeks man of the match performance.
By half time however, Slough were 3-0 down.

Unfortunately Amrit Bason had aggravated a groin injury mid-way through the first half and had to spend the second half increasing the effectiveness of Ashu Chopra (who had injured his neck prior to the game) in Slough's 'crocked' forward line. In the second half slough's Midfield of Arunjot Singh Surjit Sandhu and Sanjay Prabhaker continued to pressure the HAsks midfield and were occasionally able to free Robh Popplewell on the right wing but Slough were unable to convert their chances, the best of which fell to Chopra and Taranjit in the second half, neither of whom were able to trouble the goal keeper. In fact the Hawks keeper only had one save to make from a Dixon short corner in the second period.

Slough held on to the 3-0 scoreline until midway through the seond half - and this probably would have been a fairer reflection of the game, but some extremely lax defending led to 4 more goals; the first of these a hawks midfielder was allowed to pick his spot from the left hand side, the second, no one closed down the cetre forward and allowed him as much time as he liked to blast in, the third a player was allowed to moved unopposed to the right of the goal to cross to an un-marked player on the centre spot and the last, when Slough were trying to attack, a Hawks player was allowed to run from the half way line, in a straight line past 2 Slough defenders and push it in to the corner.

All in all very disappointing after the improvements of last week.
Hopefully next week will be better.
