Slough went in to the unknown in the Junior Development League with their first ever league U14 fixture against Surbiton on Sunday afternoon at Kingston Grammar School's Finlay pitch.
Slough started off well and quickly dominated the opposition scoring 2 early goals. Passing and structure were good but Surbiton perhaps had the edge in their hitting and passing techniques.
The starting line up seemed fairly confident with their positions but when changes were made, some structure was lost and by half time some of the positioning was shambolic with centre backs in the opposition D and inside lefts on the right etc.
Positioning was restored at half time but again the changes made differences. Towards the end, Slough were 4-3 down and the structure was restored once again. Navidu then broke away with searing pace leaving the defence for dead scoring by playing a 1-2 with the keeper before picking up the rebound and tapping it in getting slough back into contention. Then Arjan Purba managed to find the gap between the Surbiton 'keeper's pads to clinch a winner.
Both teams could have had more goals but both 'keepers played well with the Surbiton goalkeeper especially impressing with ta number of great 1 vs 1 saves, he came out quickly and hit the floor , making almost impossible to roll the ball in.
All in all an inspiring first performance with much to build on for the future.
